UK inflation rises
18.07.13
Higher fuel and clothing prices have led to an inflation rise of 2.9% in June in the UK, a 14-month high, statistics revealed this week...
The figure was controlled and only didn't break the 3% barrier thanks to an unusually slow rise in air fares and food prices.
The rise had been predicted by the Office of National Statistics, although it is predicted to decrease before the end of 2013.
The Retail prices index (RPI) inflation also increased to 3.3%.
The Bank of England's new Governor, Mark Carney, will be breathing a huge sigh of relief. If the inflation had broken the 3% barrier, he would have had to write an open letter to Chancellor George Osborne demonstrating why the inflation was so far off their 2% target.
