Rise in rail fares

16.08.13

Rail fares will rise in England next year despite protests from the trade unions. The news came on the same day as an announcement stating inflation in the country is easing slightly.

The average rise of train fares will be around 4.1%, but according to the Labour party, a 9.1% rise could affect those travelling on busier routes.

Scottish train companies' fares are capped at the rate of inflation.

The money generated from the increased fares is due to be invested into improving the current rail system.
