Hays: Temporary staff benefits
18.12.12
A study conducted by Hays into temporary workers and the reasons they choose temporary work over permanent work revealed that 78% do so for increased flexibility.
Nigel Heap, Managing Director of Hays UK & Ireland, said: "There has been a definite shift in attitudes in regards to temporary contracts over the last few years, with nearly a third (32%) of employees saying they have seen an improvement in the type of temporary work on offer since the recession."
The results, gathered from a survey of over 500 temporary employees, also revealed that major benefits for contractors are: Greater independence, the ability to learn new skills and not having to be tied down with a permanent contract. Just under a third of contractors revealed they specifically chose a temporary role over a permanent one.
Eighteen percent also chose to be self-employed to avoid 'office politics' and 15% think temporary contracts offer a better work/life balance.
