Hartnett jumps ship
05.06.13
Leading accountancy firm Deloitte have hired ex-HMRC head Dave Hartnett, a mere 10 months after he left his controversial role at the tax office.
Hartnett was reportedly the brains behind the tax deals with HMRC and multinational corporations like Vodafone, but now, he'll be working one day a week for their auditors Deloitte.
The appointment has raised the debate of HMRC's relationship with the multinational corporations such as Goldman Sachs, whom Hartnett was rumoured to have saved £20m in interest payments. It will also pose the question: Why does HMRC have such a cosy relationship with multinational companies and accountancy firms?
