HMRC system fault

09.04.13

Some employers and payroll companies using the PAYE tax system were left frustrated over the weekend after HMRC's systems underwent a bi-annual update on the same day that the new Real Time Information (RTI) system went live.

There are an estimated 1.4million businesses set to be affected by the changes that went live on Saturday, but many discovered problems when it came to submitting their RTI information.

Many were left frustrated that HMRC decided to coincide these bi-annual updates with the introduction of RTI, but 18,807 small businesses finally managed to complete their first submissions.

RTI was set up to help PAYE to work more effectively and to allow the new benefits system to operate.

Businesses with less than 50 employees have until October 2013 to get ready for RTI.

One of the main benefits of using Consort's services is the ability to be paid gross as a sole trader, rather than using the less beneficial PAYE system. This means by using Consort, you don't have to worry about RTI. Become part of the Consort team and pay your tax annually with the ability of offsetting any work-related costs against your gross earnings.
