File return by 31st Jan 2012
12.12.11
It’s that time once again – Christmas is done and dusted, we’ve entered a new year, and you think you’re at the very end of your to-do list.
But one more task remains – completing your tax form.
The deadline for paper returns has passed, but there is still time to file online via HMRC’s website.
The consequences of filing your return after the 31st January are harsher then ever, with a fixed penalty of £100 regardless of how many days you missed the deadline by. If you are late filing your tax return by three months or more, the fine will increase by a daily charge of £10, until the fine reaches £900 (90 days).
A further penalty of £300 (or 5% of your due tax, whichever is more) will be added if you still haven’t filed after six months. The same penalty will be added again after another six months, or in severe cases, you will be asked to pay 100% of the tax owed.
If you’re still finding it daunting and you’re worried about the possible repercussions of filing late, Consort have partnered with a leading provider of tax services – Taxback.com.
