Fathers take little paternity leave

28.03.14

Research recently compiled by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) has found that poor support from employers means many men take little or no paternity leave.

Nearly 2,000 male workers were surveyed, of which a quarter took no paternity leave at all. Less than one in 10 men took more than their two weeks leave that they are legally allowed.

Changes which will allow men and women to share their maternity/paternity leave are due to come into effect in just over a years time, but in the meantime it seems that men have been dealt the bad hand when it comes to looking after and bonding with their newborn child.
