Contractors earn twice as much

25.01.13

Research conducted by a marketing company has revealed that the salary of a self-employed person is, on average, twice as much as the salary of an employee.

MarketStorm Global Ltd. released the findings last week, showing that the average freelancer earns £52,820 per annum. The average employee earns £26,000.

It should also be noted that the average freelancer puts in a considerably higher amount of working hours than the average employee. According to MarketStorm, 40% of freelancers work over 41 hours and 15% work over 51 hours per week.

Figures revealed this week by the Office for National Statistics revealed that in the last quarter of 2012, the number of registered self-employed workers rose by 7,000 to 4.2million.
