Contractor demand rises

20.05.14

The latest Report on Jobs from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG indicates that the demand for contractors continued to rise in the month of April, but it also indicated a skills shortage.

"The jobs market could be jeopardised with thousands of employers not able to find the skills and talent they need to meet increasing demand. The number of candidates available to fill both temporary and permanent jobs is falling at its fastest rate in a decade," said REC CEO Kevin Green.

In the wake of a skills shortage, end clients are increasing rates of pay in order to attract contractors to certain roles. The availability of contractors fell for the tenth month in succession.

"Employers are bumping up starting salaries to entice workers they need to join them. This dearth of skilled workers means that many organisations will need to improve their candidate experience and also look overseas to find people," Mr. Green added.
