Questions and Answers

This collection of frequently asked questions provides brief answers to the most common questions we are asked. If you have a question not listed or want to find out more, then just contact us and we will be happy to discuss your specific enquiry.

Can I raise invoices myself?

No. You can, of course, use the secure members area to send us your invoice/timesheet details at any time 24/7. Alternatively you can contact us with those details. We will then invoice as required and upon receipt of cleared funds, we will arrange for the payment to be made directly into your bank account. Click here to login to the secure members area.

Can I set my own charge-out rate?

You will negotiate your charge out rate with your client or recruitment company.

Have I been paid?

We understand that one of the most important things you are looking for from us is to be paid promptly and accurately for the services provided. Use the secure members area anytime 24/7 or contact us during business hours and we will be happy to answer this or any other questions you may have.

How can I get up to date information?

Use the secure online portal. From this site you can submit your invoice/timesheet details, view your billing and payment information 24/7. Alternatively, if you prefer to speak to someone, our support colleagues are available between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

What is my position within the company?

Consort is subcontracting your services to the client. You will join consort as a self-employed consultant. You will not be a director or an employee of the company.

More than one client/recruitment company?

There is no restriction on how many recruitment companies or end clients that engage your services. Just be sure that when you are notifying us of your hours and rates that you are clear which company to invoice.

Will I own the company you set up for me?

No. You will neither be the Owner, or a Director of the company. Consort retains your services as a self-employed contractor under a “Contract for Services” and invoices for those services to the client or recruitment company. In this way you can enjoy the benefits of working for yourself without the hassle, risk and administrative burden of setting up your own company.

What are my responsibilities?

You should be registered as self-employed with your tax authority. You will need to familiarise yourself with the tax rules surrounding self-employment in the country in which you are working and comply with them. You are responsible for your own taxation affairs and ensuring that you pay the correct level of personal tax according to your circumstances.

Will you find me work?

Consort offers the services of self-employed consultants to businesses worldwide. Assignments are sourced through the relationships that our self employed consultants maintain be they with recruitment companies or direct with end clients.

Will Consort take care of all my taxes?

No. Consort are not tax advisors or accountants, as a self-employed contractor supplying your services to us you are responsible for your own tax affairs. What you need to do depends on which country you will be tax resident in.
